How do I file a complaint against a website that takes money from me?

Many Internet users find themselves confronted with regular withdrawals from their bank account by websites of which they are unaware.

These scams are more and more frequent, and if you are in this case, perhaps you are looking to file a complaint?

We help you to see more clearly on the steps to take against a website that takes money from you.

The steps for a dispute with a website

If you want to file a complaint against a website that improperly takes money from you, here are the steps to follow:

  1. Contact the site internet in question to attempt to resolve the dispute amicably. You can either send an email or use the contact form available on their site. Sometimes you can even try to call them. If you don't get a response, then you can move on to the next step.

  2. Report online scams.
If you are in France, you can contact the DGCCRF (Direction Générale de la Concurrence, de la Consumption et de la Répression des Frauds), using the reporting form available at the following address here.
You can also make a report on the site of the CNIL (National Commission for Computing and Liberties) if you think that the site does not respect the rules of protection of personal data. This platform is accessible at the following address here.

  3. File a complaint.
If you are the victim of a scam, it is possible to file a complaint on the THESEE online platform (Harmonized processing of investigations and reports for e-frauds).
Please note: it should be noted that the situation may vary depending on the location of the seller, whether or not he is located in the European zone.
If you wish to lodge a complaint concerning a site abroad, you must contact, for example, the RICPC (international network of control and consumer protection).

  4. Contact your bank.
If you have direct debits that have been made via your credit card, you can dispute the transactions with your bank and try to block the payment method used by this website, in order to avoid further debits.

Share your scam experience

It is important to report this type of scam online, to prevent other people from falling victim to this same scam.

For example, you can provide information to Info scams, such as websites, e-mails, phishing attempts, by contacting them by telephone on 0 805 805 817 (free service and call).

Frequently updated blacklists are even supplied by certain institutions, such as the ACPR (Prudential Control and Resolution Authority) and the AMF (Financial Markets Authority)

What about refunds?

During a disputed online purchase, the chargeback procedure (also called chargeback) allows reimbursement under certain conditions. This procedure allows you to be reimbursed by the brand of your credit card or by your bank, when the website does not respect consumer rights. Unfortunately, it must be taken into account that reimbursements are not always possible.
